Captain Gregg M. Bayer has been involved in the Fire and Emergency Services since 1983. He started in Northern Wisconsin as part of a Wilderness Search and Rescue Team, while attending Northland College. In 1984, he transferred to Eastern Kentucky University, where he lived at Richmond Fire Department, Station 3. In 1986 he received an Associate of Science in Emergency Medicine-Paramedic, and completed his Bachelor Degree in Fire Science Engineering Technology in 1988. During his tenure at EKU, Captain Bayer worked for Madison County Ambulance Service and as a Co-op at Richmond Fire Department. Captain Bayer worked for nearly 10 years for the City of Winchester Fire Department and Clark County Ambulance Service. He served as a flight paramedic for the University of Kentucky Aeromedical Service for several years. In 1995 he came to Lexington Fire Department and worked up through the ranks to Captain of Rescue Company 1, 1 st Platoon. Captain Bayer has taught in both public and private sectors, University of Kentucky Paramedics Program, Toyota Motor Mfg., in addition to many fire schools throughout the state. He is a Structural Collapse Technician, as well as rope, confined space, trench, swift water, farm machinery and large animal rescue. He has been involved with Technical Rescue at the Lexington Fire Department since its inception. Additionally, he is a Level 2 Fire Instructor, Advanced, Nitro, Rescue, Wreck and Dive master.
