Description
This workshop is held in conjunction with Lexington Fayette Urban County Government – Division of Fire and Emergency Services – Special Operations Unit. This will be an intense 16 hour class emphasizing skills at the Confined Space Operations Level. Students will be instructed on current OSHA and NFPA Recommendations as well as some local Fire Dept Standard Operation Procedures. Students will be taught Confined Space PPE, basic raise/lower systems, SCBA long line systems, Communication systems, ventilation practices, air monitoring, lockout/tagout procedures and EMS with a heavy emphasis on patient packaging and removal.

Comments
Student will need SCBA with face piece, rescue style helmet, long sleeve shirt, BDU/Work pants, eye protection, leather/rope gloves, steel toed boots and a good attitude.

Description
This two day class will include active and passive search techniques, body physiology, witness interviews, and search patterns. Day one will be in the classroom and day two will be at Lake Reba in Richmond.

Comments
Students should be prepared to spend one day outside on the water. Personal flotation devices are mandatory. Students/rescue teams should bring the following items if possible: rescue boat (electric motors), rope throw bags, floats, and drag bars.

Description
This is a one-day classroom and laboratory program designed to learn practical techniques to reduce risk of injury and property damage when responding to an emergency situation. The concepts of vehicle balance, traction loss, emotional to adrenaline push, collision avoidance and crash mitigation will be discussed in lecture format. In addition to classroom theory, practical demonstration will be used with emergency response equipment to illustrate the vehicle dynamic problems. Personal driving skills will include wet and dry surface crash avoidance and crash mitigation techniques.

Scott McCowan has been employed by Georgetown Scott County Emergency Medical Services for the pas 13 years. Scott served in Desert Shield/Storm and Task Force Freedom as a squad leader. He has studied many self defense disciplines, both traditional and exotic, and currently serves as the Kentucky Coordinator for DT4EMS.

Description
DT4EMS is for EMS providers, created by EMS providers. It is an organization that teaches EMS providers to prevent, avoid, and escape an assault. The DT4EMS course provides training in force response levels, legal, moral, and ethical self-defense as well as documentation training to provide protection after any use of force. It is important for EMS providers to receive training in self-defense to keep them from reverting to caveman style techniques in a violent encounter.

Wear loose clothing and a mouthpiece is recommended.

Description
24 hour EMT-Basic refresher course meeting requirements for Kentucky and National (NREMT) recertification and continuing education. This course will cover topics from personnel safety to advanced airway management including patient assessment, medical and trauma, obstetrics, pediatrics and geriatric care. Current trends in EMS including expanded scope of care will be discussed. The course will be presented in lecture/discussion, videos, and hands-on skills. All equipment will be provided.

Description
FIREFIGHTER SURVIVAL
This is an 8 hour course and will be offered on Saturday only. This course will emphasize the removal of trapped or unconscious firefighters from a burning building and self rescue techniques when the primary escape route is blocked. This is a required course for all new firefighters in Kentucky. Full turn out gear and SCBA are required.

FIREFIGHTER RESCUE
This is an 8 hour course and will be offered on Sunday only. This course is designed to teach you how to rescue fellow firefighters from a burning structure. Special techniques are used for the rescue portion. This is a required course for all new firefighters in Kentucky. The completion of FF survival is a prerequisite for this course. Full turnout gear and SCBA are required.

Description
Ground Search and Rescue covers Search and Rescue Technician (SARTECH) III & II requirements.
Providing an overview of all aspects of search and rescue procedures and equipment, FUNSAR teaches the essential techniques employed by nearly all search and rescue personnel.  FUNSAR offers an in-depth and practical approach to search and rescue and is recommended for all emergency responders.

Comments
All students should have a dependable flashlight with spare batteries, a canteen, and an orienting compass with a clear base plate. Bring a pencil and paper for notes. Students should dress appropriately for current and predicted weather conditions, as much of the course involves outdoor activity. Sturdy boots and long pants are recommended for all those intending to participate in the search activities. Tennis shoes will not be acceptable.

Description
The safety officer oversees all tasks performed by fire or rescue personnel at the emergency incident. He/she is responsible for immediately correcting safety problems and creating an awareness of simple precautions that can save lives and prevent injury. The goal of this course is to provide emergency personnel with skills to function effectively as the safety officer at emergency incident operations. The primary focus shall be on developing decision-making skills through actual scenarios and assist in the recognition of problems that affect personal safety. Target audience would be emergency personnel who may have the Safety Officer responsibility at emergency operation situations.

Description
This class is designed for rescue personnel who have some background in rope rescue. The class will cover many skills at a faster pace then basic rope rescue. The class will provide instruction and practical experience in anchor systems and haul systems. Wall pickoffs and vertical stokes basket work will also be included. Prerequisite: Basic rope rescue.  

Comments
Students will need leather gloves that have not been used for fire fighting, leather boots or other footwear that provides ankle support, rescue or fire helmet, personal equipment will be inspected by instructors prior to use.

Description
This course meets the search management training requirement specified in KRS 39F.200 for local search and rescue coordinators. Class consists of lecture and group discussion on a variety of search management topics, with group work based on actual lost person search and rescue case studies. The class is designed for new personnel as well as for the experience SAR personnel.

Comments
This class is open to rescue, fire, emergency medical, and law enforcement personnel or any organization having responsibility for search for missing or lost persons.

This 24-hour (3-day) course is designed for search specialists who will be required to conduct a wide area search of an incident site, such as after a tornado, a flood, or a hurricane. This course is appropriate for Technical and Canine Search Specialists as well as Search Team Managers, or any other responder with a solid base of knowledge in search skills and techniques.
