Lt. Ryan Hogsten has served since 1995 with the Lexington Division of Fire and Emergency Services. Ryan started his career in 1994 while attending Eastern Kentucky University’s Fire and Safety Engineering Technology program. Ryan graduated in 1996 with a Bachelors Degree in Fire Administration. Ryan has served as a volunteer as well as a paid firefighter rising to the rank of Assistant Chief within the England Hill Fire Department.

Lt. Hogsten has been an instructor since 1996 and currently is an instructor for Kentucky State Fire Commission teaching fire, rescue and EMS classes throughout the State of Kentucky, including the Fire Science Program at Bluegrass Community and Technical College. Ryan also teaches with Industrial Fire Safety Associates of Kentucky, an industrial based company instructing Industrial Fire and Rescue Brigades in all facets of fire, rescue, and EMS.

In late 1999, Ryan was selected as a founding member of Lexington Fire Depts. Special Operations/Technical Rescue Program. He is currently assigned as a Lieutenant/Rescue Technician to Engine Co. #13, which is one of four of LFD’s Technical Rescue Squad Companies. Lt. Hogsten’s past assignments have included Ladder, Engine, and Emergency Care units as well as being chosen as a founding member of Rescue Co. #1; Lexington’s first and only Heavy Rescue Company.

Ryan is currently serving as a Rescue Specialist with Ohio Task Force 1, which is one of 28 FEMA Task Force Teams. This assignment allows him to train and work beside some of the best rescue specialists within the United States.

Ryan’s philosophy on life, as well as training, is a simple one: “Attitudes are contagious, how is yours?” and he brings that philosophy to every class.
