First-line Supervision Certificate Program

The First-Line Supervision Certificate Program begins with an 18 hour seminar (3 one-day classes), Core I Basic Supervision. Participants then select and attend an additional 18 hours (3 one-day classes) of Elective seminars. This completes the Basic Supervision Certification (total of 36 hours).

The Advanced Supervision Certificate is the second phase of the program and consists of another 18 hour seminar (3 one-day classes), Core II Advanced Supervision. Participants again select and attend an additional 18 hours (3 one-day classes) of Elective seminars for a total of 36 hours of training.

BASIC SUPERVISION (CORE I)

Description:

Core I offers a broad overview of responsibilities for the new or "never trained" supervisor or supervisors who have not received any formal training.

ADVANCED SUPERVISION (CORE II)

Description:

Most supervisors and managers today are technically solid. They have computer skills, machine and product skills, and very likely have been promoted or recommended for promotion based largely on an assessment of technical competence. What most often limits excellence in light of clear and quantifiable individual technological capability is a shortfall in the interpersonal skills – or "people skills" area. This workshop is designed to offer a bridge between technology and results.

Description:

Description:

Learn practical skills that will enable you to move from wasteful negative conflict toward productive win-win solutions. Use communication skills to defuse conflict and solve problems. Respond more successfully in different conflict situations.

*   Work with different personalities productively rather than allow differences to stimulate negative conflict.

* Recognize the differences between constructive and destructive uses of conflict.

*   Identify the different responses to conflict and your preferred response in order to learn when to use each most effectively.

*   Use communication skills such as active listening and giving/receiving interpersonal feedback to  defuse negative conflict.

*   Manage conflict through processes that move conflict from wasteful win-lose toward productive win-win solutions.
