Life Space Crisis Intervention: Talking with Students in Conflict

This 40-hour course (4.0 CEU’s) provides carefully structured theoretical and applied instruction in crisis intervention skills for use in reclaiming children and youth involved in patterns of self-defeating behavior. Life Space Crisis Intervention (LSCI) is applicable with troubled and at risk students in residential and day treatment, special education, alternative schools, public school guidance and inclusion programs, and in mental health and juvenile justice programs. This intervention model is a multi-modal psycho-educational methodology first described by Fritz Redl and David Wineman in their classic book, "The Aggressive Child."

The course provides students with a practical approach for connecting with youth in conflict. The course places emphasis on self-exploration, skill development and practice in the identification and use of online and other resources that are valuable to anyone who works with troubled and troubling children and youth. This course provides theory, knowledge, as well as instruction and practice in the skills in crisis management.

The purpose of the course is to add to the professional knowledge and skill needed to work productively with children in social welfare/child protection services, educational and treatment settings. This class serves well as collateral coursework for students in education/special education, social work, psychology, guidance and counseling.

Registration Fee is $250.00 and includes full access to the online course and resources. Participants must purchase or have access to the required textbook “Life Space Crisis Intervention: Talking with Students in Conflict.”

Reclaiming our Prodigal Sons and Daughters

This 40-hour course (4.0 CEU’s) provides students with a practical approach for connecting with youth in conflict. The parable of the prodigal son is utilized to form the framework of an enduring paradigm that will provide the student the opportunity to positively impact troubled youth. The major focus of the course is the spiritual dimension of contemporary youth problems and the role that members of faith communities can play in reclaiming youth in conflict. The course places emphasis on self-exploration, skill development and practice in the identification and use of online and other resources that are valuable to anyone who works with troubled youth.

Registration Fee is $250 and includes full access to the online course, resources, and CD.

Participants must purchase or have access to the required textbook “Reclaiming our Prodigal Sons and Daughters” by Scott Larson and Larry Brendtro.
